U2 Ends Nine-Year Studio Album Hiatus with Soaring New Single "Street of Dreams"

Iconic Irish rock giants U2 have officially launched their next major musical era, releasing a brand-new single titled "Street of Dreams" to global streaming platforms.

Released via Island Records, the highly anticipated track serves as the official lead single from the band's upcoming, yet-to-be-announced 15th studio album. The project represents a massive milestone for the legendary Dublin quartet—consisting of Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton, and Larry Mullen Jr.—marking their very first full-length album of entirely new, original material in nine years, since 2017's Songs of Experience.

That Signature, Chiming Sound Returns

Produced by the band's longtime studio collaborator Jacknife Lee, "Street of Dreams" acts as a triumphant, open-hearted return to the classic U2 sonic aesthetic.

The track is built squarely around a driving, rolling snare pattern from drummer Larry Mullen Jr.—who is triumphantly back behind the kit following his recovery from neck surgery—and the instantly recognizable, crystalline guitar chime of The Edge. Lyrically, Bono steers the song into familiar, inspiring territory, delivering a massive, stadium-sized chorus that features the frontman singing the bilingual hook: "La calle, calle de los sueños / All the doors are open on the street of dreams."

The single serves as the anchor to a incredibly busy year of creative output for the band, following their surprise release of two highly distinct, standalone EPs earlier this spring, Days of Ash and Easter Lily. Unlike those more politically charged and reflective projects, "Street of Dreams" is built directly to serve as a massive, colorful, live-performance anthem.

A Chaotic Mexico City Video Shoot and a Noble Cause

To celebrate the release, the band unveiled an official music video that carries a remarkably unique, real-life backstory.

The video was filmed entirely on location in Mexico City, where the band had traveled to attend the 2026 Street Child World Cup Finals at the Parque Ecológico Lago de Texcoco. The visual features the band performing on top of a vibrant, custom-designed transit bus created by renowned Mexican artist Chavis Mármol as they traverse the city streets.

However, during the shoot near the historic Plaza Santo Domingo, a sudden summer storm of heavy rain and thunder completely crashed the band's production generators. Pivoting on the fly, a welcoming local family invited the four rock legends onto their private apartment balcony. While waiting for the storm to pass, the band proceeded to lead massive, impromptu acoustic singalongs of classic hits like "Vertigo" and "Desire" for the hundreds of rain-soaked fans gathered in the street below—a heartwarming, community-driven moment that was captured by cameras and woven directly into the official final music video.

Partnering with David Beckham for a Powerful Message

The release of "Street of Dreams" has also been paired with a major philanthropic short film of the same name, produced in partnership with Bank of America.

The cinematic project tells the touching, resilient story of a young girl navigating homelessness who refuses to surrender her passion for soccer. The short film features a prominent, symbolic co-starring appearance from global sports ambassador Sir David Beckham, who acts as a personified "guardian voice" guiding the young athlete.

The high-profile release of the single and film officially kicks off a massive autumn countdown for U2. The band is set to celebrate a monumental 50th anniversary this September, marking five decades since Larry Mullen Jr. famously posted his "drummer seeks musicians" note on the bulletin board at Dublin’s Mount Temple Comprehensive School in 1976. By delivering a track that is both fresh and deeply nostalgic, U2 has perfectly positioned themselves to dominate the global rock conversation heading into the fall.
