Alternative rock juggernauts My Chemical Romance have signed an exclusive worldwide administration agreement with Warner Chappell Music (WCM), bringing their full songwriting catalog under the same corporate umbrella as their recorded music and global merchandise operations.
The landmark publishing deal covers global rights administration, copyright protection, bespoke sync licensing across film, TV, and gaming, and future works.
By uniting publishing alongside their longtime label home at Warner Records—where the band has released multi-platinum works since 2003—MCR establishes a single-corporate ecosystem to manage their entire brand IP.
Full Corporate Realignment Across Master, Publishing, and Merch
Prior to the agreement, My Chemical Romance’s publishing administration was handled separately from their recorded music and merchandise arms.
The new deal consolidates the band’s entire intellectual property portfolio under Warner Music Group (WMG):
- Unified Rights Administration: WCM will oversee the publishing administration for the band’s entire studio album discography—I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love, Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge, The Black Parade, and Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys—alongside any upcoming material.
- Cross-Departmental Synchronization: By bringing sync licensing in-house alongside master recording ownership, WMG eliminates third-party licensing friction, streamlining clearance processes for high-value film, television, and video game placements.
- Brand Protection and Catalog Defense: The single-corporate alignment enables coordinated global copyright enforcement and direct catalog monetization across physical, digital, and live merch channels.
Strategic Alignment and Executive Vision
For WMG leadership, securing the publishing rights to MCR's songwriting catalog represents a key strategic consolidation of one of modern rock's most lucrative back catalogs.
"Bringing My Chemical Romance's publishing to Warner Music Group alongside their recorded music and merch feels like the ultimate homecoming," stated WCM Senior Vice President of A&R Greg Sowders regarding the signing. "Having the full WMG team aligned gives us a massive canvas to drive new opportunities and collaborations for their entire catalogue."
The unified structure equips My Chemical Romance with an agile, streamlined operational team as the band continues to navigate large-scale stadium runs and catalog anniversaries, maximizing revenue generation across all primary music rights pillars.
