Visa Cash App RB (VCARB) driver Liam Lawson is set to make his official live music debut ahead of the United States Grand Prix in Austin, taking the stage on Thursday, October 22, as part of the team's culture and music activation, Garage Sessions.
The event—held at Inn Cahoots on Austin’s East 6th Street—marks the first time an active Formula 1 driver will headline a team-backed concert, demonstrating how modern motorsport teams are utilizing lifestyle-driven marketing to expand driver brand equity beyond the track.
Childhood Band Reunion and Stage Setup
Lawson's headlining set reunites the 24-year-old Kiwi with his original childhood bandmates—including his brother, Marcus, and school friends Thomas and Harrison—who first played together at age eight:
- Cross-Genre Lineup: The concert pairs Lawson's rock-infused set with established country and pop songwriters, including Drake Milligan, Jonathon Capeci, Scoot Teasley, and Jess Farren.
- Low-Friction Setlist: Recognizing the physical strain and time constraints of a Grand Prix race weekend, Lawson tailored the setlist to classic rock and pop tracks with manageable vocal demands.
- High-Pressure Contrast: Lawson acknowledged the psychological jump between driving and performing, noting that taking the mic presents distinct pre-race nerves compared to stepping into the cockpit.
"I would say driving a race car is much easier. I'm nowhere near as nervous for a race as I am for this performance," Lawson noted regarding his live stage debut. "They're both high pressure, that's for sure."
The Commercial Anchor: Taylor Guitars Signature Launch
Beyond the live performance, the activation serves as the official product launch for a commercial hardware partnership with Taylor Guitars.
The collaboration yields the LL30 GS Mini Special Edition, a compact acoustic guitar featuring a pink-to-white ombré finish, Lawson's racing number 30 on the pickguard, and custom soundhole graphics.
By securing a physical instrument endorsement alongside a trackside activation, Red Bull and VCARB continue to push direct-to-consumer lifestyle integrations—using off-track fan access to maximize commercial engagement in critical growth markets like the United States.
