Kendrick Lamar's pgLang Expands Roster, Surprise Drops Imani Imani's Debut Album 'Papercut'

Kendrick Lamar and Dave Free’s multi-disciplinary creative company, pgLang, has officially announced the expansion of its ultra-selective artist roster with the surprise release of alternative R&B singer Imani Imani’s debut studio album, Papercut.

Bypassing the traditional industry-standard Friday midnight release window, the 13-track project was drop-shipped directly to global streaming platforms in a sudden mid-week move, instantly setting social media feeds ablaze.

From Chanel Paris to pgLang Co-Sign

While Papercut marks Imani Imani’s formal introduction as a headline artist under the pgLang umbrella, her creative ties to the camp have been quietly developing in elite fashion spaces.

Listeners initially discovered the singer-songwriter under her former moniker, Imani Selina. She served as the vocal core for "I Feel Something," an unreleased Kendrick Lamar track that Dave Free specifically curated to soundtrack Chanel’s Spring-Summer Haute Couture show at the Grand Palais Éphémère in Paris. Following that high-profile presentation, Lamar and Free quietly integrated her into their Los Angeles studio headquarters. Rebranding natively as Imani Imani, she now becomes the latest singular talent to join pgLang's tight-knit creative family alongside Baby Keem and Tanna Leone.

Elite R&B Collaborative Roster

The sonic landscape of Papercut entirely eschews traditional radio tropes, opting instead for progressive percussion structures, atmospheric basslines, and intricate, avant-garde vocal arrangements.

To anchor her debut body of work, pgLang paired the rising vocalist with some of the most respected sound architects in alternative contemporary soul. The album’s production credits boast heavy creative input from Grammy-winning vocal arranger James Fauntleroy (Frank Ocean, Rihanna, Bruno Mars) and alternative R&B craftsman Sam Dew. Standout tracks like "Bet On Me," "You're Mine," and the haunting finale "Mindgames" push the boundaries of neo-soul, proving why the imprint aggressively moved to secure her signature.

Reclaiming the Rollout Blueprint

The unannounced deployment of Papercut serves as a direct continuation of pgLang’s disruptive industry playbook. By intentionally removing Imani Imani from the chaotic noise of the standard New Music Friday slate, the label has forced streaming tastemakers, blogs, and fans to treat the release as an isolated, high-priority cultural event.

With Papercut now live globally, pgLang has once again proven its commitment to raw expression and grassroots artistic autonomy—re-writing the release blueprint for independent music rollout strategies in 2026.

Papercut is available to stream now on all major platforms via pgLang/Interscope Records.
