Hip-hop veteran Vanilla Ice saw a headlining performance abruptly canceled just two hours before showtime due to a sudden bout of inclement weather.
The "Ice Ice Baby" rapper, whose real name is Rob Van Winkle, was set to take the massive main stage on the National Mall for a heavily promoted "I Love the '90s" concert block. However, organizers with Freedom 250 released a sudden social media directive shuttering the entire event site due to heavy incoming storms.
Forced to Withdraw
The sudden cancellation fartist artures that plagued the concert lineup over the last month, many citing political reasons.Vanilla Ice had previously told media outlets that his involvement was entirely about country pride instead, stating: "I'm here to party with America, man. I'll go play for Putin and I'll play in Iran if you want. It don't matter. Music is universal."
Hours before the gates were set to open, a visibly excited Vanilla Ice posted a video to his Instagram directly from the National Mall, showcasing the massive stage and declaring the night was going to be "epic" and a "once-in-a-lifetime opportunity."
The elation was cut short just after 5:00 PM ET when Freedom 250 issued an emergency alert:
⚠️ Due to inclement weather in the area, the Freedom 250 Great American State Fair and FIFA World Cup 2026™ Fan Zone will be closed for the rest of the day. The safety of our guests, staff, and partners remains our top priority.
It is yet to be known if Vanilla Ice's show will be rescheduled for later or for a different date.
