Universal Music Group (UMG) announced a major leadership restructuring on Tuesday, March 31, 2026. Under the direction of Jesús López, Chairman & CEO of Universal Music Latin America and Iberian Peninsula, the company has appointed Alfredo Delgadillo as the new CEO & President of Universal Music Latin Entertainment (UMLE). This newly expanded role grants Delgadillo oversight of Universal Music Latino in the United States while he continues to lead the powerhouse Universal Music Mexico and the iconic Regional Mexican label Fono. The move signals UMG’s transition toward a "borderless" operational model, designed to sync the massive Mexican domestic market directly with the U.S. Latino consumer base.
The restructuring addresses a technical and commercial reality of 2026: Latin music is no longer a "regional" genre, but a primary global export. By consolidating the U.S. and Mexican leadership under Delgadillo, UMG is aiming to streamline cross-border A&R and marketing strategies. To support this vision, Daniel Luna has been named the new General Manager of Universal Music Latino, based in Miami. Luna will report directly to Delgadillo, ensuring that the label’s U.S. operations are perfectly aligned with the creative output coming from Mexico City—the current epicenter of the global "Regional Mexican" boom.
Strengthening the Creative Core
Furthering this "unified" approach, Angel Kaminsky has been promoted to President, A&R and Artist Relations for Universal Music Latin America and the Iberian Peninsula. Kaminsky’s role is purely creative-focused, tasked with elevating artist development across all Spanish-speaking markets. This appointment is a strategic Route B (Industry) response to the increasing competition from independent distributors and boutique labels. By placing a veteran A&R hand at the helm of regional relations, UMG is doubling down on its ability to sign and scale local talent—like Danna, Mon Laferte, and Feid—into permanent global superstars.
"Alfredo's expanded leadership strengthens our regional integration and cross-border label strategy (...). We are building seamless collaboration across all territories to drive sustainable, long-term global success." — Jesús López, Chairman & CEO, Universal Music Latin America
The Data-Driven Pivot
From a technical perspective, this realignment allows UMG to better utilize its proprietary data analytics across the entire Latin ecosystem. By centralizing leadership, the company can more effectively track "migration" trends—seeing how a hit in Monterrey scales into Texas and California in real-time. This "one-region" philosophy is expected to significantly reduce the friction typically found in multi-territory releases, allowing for simultaneous global "surround-sound" campaigns for major artists.
As the industry closes out Q1 of 2026, Universal’s message is clear: the division between "Latin American" and "U.S. Latino" music is officially a thing of the past. By installing Delgadillo at the top of this unified hierarchy, UMG is positioning itself to own the next decade of Latin music’s evolution, from the heart of Mexico to the top of the global Billboard charts.
