The initiative addresses one of the most persistent bottlenecks in interactive entertainment: the slow, costly, and highly fragmented process of clearing master and publishing rights for video games.
By embedding pre-licensed multi-track stems directly into the engine, Epic Games creates a frictionless sync pipeline that unlocks massive recurring revenue streams for rights holders while empowering game developers to seamlessly integrate commercial audio.
Modernizing the Game Sync Pipeline and Revenue Model
Historically, sync licensing for video games has operated on static upfront buyouts. Traditional clearance required developers to negotiate separate master recording and publishing agreements across multiple rights holders—a process that often took months and priced out mid-tier and indie studios.
The Unreal Engine integration restructures this economic relationship by digitizing micro-licensing and enabling continuous monetization:
- Pre-Cleared One-Stop Syncing: Through integrated smart contracts and standardized royalty frameworks, developers can license tracks for in-game use, promotional trailers, and user-generated content (UGC) without navigating traditional legal clearance delays.

Beyond legal clearance, the technological integration fundamentally transforms how licensed music functions inside an interactive environment.
