Australian Hit DJ FISHER Joins the Cast of Toy Story 5

The worlds of global electronic dance music and nostalgic childhood cinema are colliding in the most unexpected way. Australian music producer and DJ FISHER—internationally celebrated for filling massive festival stages at Coachella, holding down residency slots in Ibiza, and his Grammy-nominated anthem "Losing It"—is officially trading his headphones for a pair of ceramic boots. Disney and Pixar have officially confirmed that the Gold Coast-born artist has joined the voice cast for the highly anticipated Toy Story 5.

The announcement, which the tech-house star excitedly shared across his social media networks on Monday morning, marks a major milestone for the producer. Moving from high-octane global nightlife to a family-friendly cinematic universe that has spanned three decades, FISHER expressed immense pride regarding the crossover:

"THIS IS ACTUALLY WILD !!! IM THE GARDEN GNOME IN TOY STORY 5. I honestly just can't wait to watch this show with Chloe, Bobbi, and Andi. This is a franchise that my family and I have loved for years."

The Localized Release and Character Architecture

While the baseline Toy Story franchise historically welcomes massive Hollywood names, Disney is utilizing a targeted, regional casting strategy to bring a distinct local flavor to the film's international theatrical rollouts. FISHER will voice the character of Garden Gnome specifically for the Australian and New Zealand cinematic release of the movie, which is scheduled to premiere exclusively on June 18, 2026.

According to the official character descriptions provided by Pixar, Garden Gnome is not part of Bonnie’s primary bedroom toybox. Instead, he operates on the outer fringes of her world, existing as a member of a "small but scrappy community of forgotten toys living in an abandoned backyard shed." Despite being cast aside and exposed to the elements, this miniature lawn ornament is described as being "fiercely protective of teatime and his kid," setting him up as a gritty, comedic addition to the narrative.

FISHER isn't the only global music heavy-hitter joining the franchise's ranks this time around. Just last week, Pixar announced that global streaming juggernaut Bad Bunny has also joined the voice cast, portraying a character named "Pizza with Sunglasses."

The Plot: "Toys Meets Tech"

The narrative core of Toy Story 5 steps directly into a contemporary parenting dilemma, framing the story around a high-stakes generational clash between physical action figures and digital screens.

The film finds the classic gang—headlined by returning icons Tom Hanks (Woody), Tim Allen (Buzz Lightyear), and Joan Cusack (Jessie)—facing an unprecedented threat to their relevance. Bonnie's imagination and attention are increasingly being swallowed up by a sleek, high-tech smart tablet named Lilypad (voiced by Past Lives star Greta Lee). Lilypad comes packed with disruptive, algorithmically tailored ideas about entertainment, forcing Woody and Buzz to navigate a modern world where screen time is king.

Production and Creative Pedigree

To handle the delicate balance of maintaining the franchise's emotional legacy while introducing contemporary themes, Pixar has assembled its premier creative architects. The film is directed by Academy Award winner Andrew Stanton, who has been a foundational creative force behind the series since the 1995 original, alongside co-director Kenna Harris and producer Lindsey Collins.

Crucially for fans of the franchise’s classic musical identity, Oscar winner Randy Newman is returning once again to compose the original score, marking his fifth consecutive time anchoring a Toy Story feature film. By placing localized pop-culture phenomena like FISHER alongside Hollywood legends and tech-focused narratives, Pixar is positioning the fifth installment to capture both the nostalgia of older generations and the digital realities of modern youth.
