Ariana Grande's 'Petal' Debuts at No. 1 on Billboard 200 With 295,000 Units

Pop powerhouse Ariana Grande has officially landed her seventh career No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 chart with her eighth studio release, Petal.

The album opened atop the chart with 295,000 equivalent album units in the United States during its first week. The massive commercial debut marks Grande's largest week by units in the 2020s and secures her highest pure sales week in over a decade.

Rarefied Historical Company

With Petal entering the top spot, Grande officially ties Lady Gaga and Janet Jackson for the fifth-most No. 1 albums among solo female artists in Billboard chart history. She now sits behind only Taylor Swift, Barbra Streisand, Madonna, and Beyoncé on the all-time list.

Petal also marks her 10th top-10 entry overall and her fifth consecutive solo studio album to debut directly at No. 1.

Pure Sales Drive and Record-Breaking Vinyl Surge

The launch was heavily propelled by physical media collectibles and targeted direct-to-consumer offerings, generating 168,000 pure album sales:

  • Record Vinyl Sales: Vinyl physical variants accounted for 96,000 copies sold, marking the largest single-week vinyl sales total of Grande's entire career.
  • Multi-Format Collectibles: The release strategy featured 10 distinct vinyl variants, five CD configurations, two cassette pressings, and over 10 digital/streaming editions featuring exclusive voice notes, live recordings, and bonus material.
  • Streaming Dominance: On-demand official audio streams contributed 126,000 streaming equivalent album (SEA) units—translating to over 128.8 million streams—helping all 12 of the album's tracks land simultaneously on the Billboard Hot 100.

Milestone Rollout Before Planned Hiatus

The album's rollout was led by the lead single "Hate That I Made You Love Me," which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 earlier this summer to become her ninth career chart-topping single. Petal also represents her inaugural full-length project under BabyDoll Music, her joint label venture alongside Republic Records.

The No. 1 debut arrives as Grande prepares to kick off her 10-night run at London's O2 Arena to wrap The Eternal Sunshine Tour on September 1, before transitioning into her previously announced hiatus from public life.
